The Terrytown Branch of Jefferson Parish Library first opened its doors October 9, 1974. Its location across the street from Terrytown Playground, near Terrytown Elementary, and sharing a parking lot with the Terrytown Golden Age Center makes it an important part of the neighborhood it serves.
Terrytown Library closed for renovations in December, 2009. With funds from riverboat gaming provided by Councilman Chris Roberts - District 1, and other donations, the 5,600-square-foot library reopened September 8, 2010, with a redesigned and more modern floor plan, a new main entrance, 21 new computers, a special area just for teens, a new reading area for adults, a larger Spanish-language collection, new handicapped-accessible restrooms, and more face-out shelving.
