FREE COURSE AT WEST BANK REGIONAL EXPLAINS THE BASICS
The Crescent City Amateur Radio Group will hold a nine-night Amateur Radio Technician course in January and February beginning at 6:30 p.m., Jan. 13, at the Jane O'Brien Chatelain West Bank Regional Library, 2751 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey.
The course is free-of-charge and is open to the public. Registration is not required.

One night of the nine-week course will be devoted to a “storm chaser” class conducted by the National Weather Service.
Students will take the national accreditation test on the final night of the course in order to get their amateur radio licenses.
Ham radio is a hobby that is enjoyed by thousands of people throughout the world. Local amateur radio operators are valuable communications volunteers following major storms and hurricanes on the Gulf Coast.

The Westbank Camera Club exists to promote and educate about photography. The club’s activities include: educational programs; member competitions; field trips; exhibits of members’ work; and as a community for sharing an interest in photography.
Film enthusiasts of all skill levels are welcome.

LEARN HOW TO WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN
Operation Hope, a nonprofit financial literacy empowerment organization, will provide it’s Entrepreneurial Training Program at the Jane O’Brien Chatelain West Bank Regional Library. The first session of the 13-week program will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9. They will continue on Thursdays in January, February, March and April. Sessions last about 90 minutes. The sessions are free-of-charge and are open to the public.

During the course, participants will become equipped with the tools needed to start their own businesses. Each participant will investigate strengths and weaknesses in the personal traits assessment, learn the different facets to become an entrepreneur and complete a business plan during the 13-week session.
Operation Hope’s mission is to expand economic opportunity in underserved communities through financial literacy education, economic empowerment and dignity.
TAX PREPAREDNESS SEMINAR ON JANUARY 18
ACCION Louisiana will conduct a tax preparedness seminar for small businesses from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Jane O’Brien Chatelain West Bank Regional Library. ACCION Louisiana, a nonprofit group that focuses on helping Spanish-language businesspeople become better entrepreneurs, will conduct a seminar about tax preparedness. ACCION Louisiana is dedicated to increasing incomes and creating jobs in low-income communities by providing micro entrepreneurs with access to credit and business support services not available from the commercial banking sector. This seminar will be conducted in Spanish but help in English is also available.
TO BEE OR NOT TOO BEE?
ADULT SPELLING BEE TO BE HELD AT WEST BANK REGIONAL
The Jefferson Parish Library will hold a spelling bee for adults at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the Jane O’Brien Chatelain West Bank Regional Library. Adults 18 years of age and older may participate in the Spelling Bee. The event is free of charge and is open to the public. Registration is not required. Participants should simply come to the event on the day it is held. The purpose of the Adult Spelling Bee is to promote good spelling and good spelling habits, and to expand vocabulary and encourage accurate word usage and pronunciation. The Jefferson Parish Library’s Adult Spelling Bee is a contest in which individual competitors are eliminated as they fail to spell a given word correctly.
